Elizabeth Hafer is a Myofunctional Therapist and owner of Chevy Chase Myo, LLC and enjoys working with children, teens and adults. Myofunctional Therapy - also referred to as Orofacial Myology and Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy - is individualized and uses exercises to retrain the muscles in the mouth and face to help you breathe, eat and speak better.
Elizabeth earned a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 2003 from West Liberty University and has completed advanced training courses in the evaluation and treatment of Orofacial Myology disorders from the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM), Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT), and MyoMentor with Sarah Hornsby.
Myofunctional Therapy is a wonderful compliment to Vivos appliance therapy, as the two work in tandem. While the appliance therapy provides a solid structural foundation to support a healthy airway, Myofunctional Therapy works to restore the muscle function in the face and mouth. When structure and function are restored together, harmony is achieved, allowing for ideal growth and development in children, while adults can experience improvement in breathing and sleep quality – all of which contribute to improved health and overall well-being. Elizabeth enjoys educating her patients and helping to create healthy, lifelong oral habits.
Elizabeth is originally from Frederick and currently resides in Chevy Chase with her husband, stepdaughter and two sons. When not in the office, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors – especially running and cycling. After completing three Marine Corps Marathons, she is looking forward to participating in races again and is training for her first triathlon.
