  • Nearly two-thirds rely on their dentists to effectively treat the root cause of their obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)

What Is Sleep Disordered Breathing?

Sleep disordered breathing is a term used to describe any condition that affects your ability to breathe easily while you are sleeping. A common condition is sleep apnea, where your body stops breathing intermittently throughout the night. This affects your overall health and quality of sleep, and it can lead to serious medical complications like heart attack or stroke.

Obstructive sleep apnea
is a condition where your upper airway cannot stay open enough for air to get through. The muscles in the back of your throat will relax too much while you're sleeping, which closes off your airway. If you have obstructive sleep apnea, you will wake up dozens of times at night choking or gasping for breath—even if you don't remember it happening when you wake the next morning.

DNA device therapy using the Vivos oral appliance can correct these upper airway problems and help you get the restful sleep you deserve. Call Breath of Life Dental at

Is Snoring a Bad Thing?

Snoring is caused by the air you breathe in and out moving past the relaxed tissue in your throat. When the tissues are too relaxed, the air causes vibrations that we hear as snoring. Many people will snore at some point in their lives, and mouth breathing makes snoring more likely. But when it's chronic, or very loud, it could indicate a risk for obstructive sleep apnea.

Oral appliances, like the Vivos DNA appliance, can help increase the size of your upper airway and reduce snoring. If you snore at night, call our office at
(301) 818-2653 to schedule a consultation for DNA device therapy!

What Is TMJ Dysfunction?

Your temporomandibular joint (or TMJ) is the joint which connects your jaw to your skull. You have one TMJ on either side of your jaw, located in front of each ear.

TMJ dysfunction is a condition where you have limited flexibility in (or damage to) one or both of these joints. Symptoms include:

  • Limited jaw movement
  • Pain that can radiate through your face, jaw, or neck
  • Clicking or popping when you move your jaw
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty or pain when chewing

The DNA appliance can relieve TMJ dysfunction by properly-aligning your jaw to reduce strain on the joints.

If you have TMJ pain, call Breath of Life Dental at (301) 818-2653 to schedule a consultation for the DNA appliance today!

How the Vivos System Works

The Vivos system is a nonsurgical treatment method that uses a Vivos mouth appliance, such as the DNA appliance.

The DNA appliance looks like a retainer. It is a custom-fitted device that gently alters the shape and position of your hard palate and lower jaw, similar to how braces alter the position of your teeth over time. As your palate widens and your jaw moves forward, your upper airway will have more space. This will enable you to breathe easily at night and relieve your obstructive sleep apnea, snoring, or TMJ dysfunction.

During the course of your treatment, you will wear the DNA appliance for 12-24 months. Once your treatment is complete, you will no longer need to wear the Vivos DNA appliance.

FAQ's

  • What is the Vivos Oral Appliance?

Answer: The Vivos Oral Appliance, also known as the Daytime-Nighttime Appliance (DNA), is a non-surgical treatment device used to address sleep-disordered breathing conditions like obstructive sleep apnea, snoring, and TMJ dysfunction. It works by gently altering the shape and position of the hard palate and lower jaw to improve airflow during sleep.

  • How does the Vivos System differ from CPAP machines?

Answer: Unlike CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machines, which provide symptomatic relief by ensuring continuous airflow, the Vivos System addresses the underlying structural causes of sleep apnea. It is a more comfortable, noise-free solution that aims to provide a permanent improvement in airway structure.

  • Who is eligible for the Vivos Treatment?

Answer: Vivos Treatment is suitable for individuals suffering from obstructive sleep apnea, chronic snoring, and TMJ dysfunction. However, the eligibility for treatment depends on individual assessment. A consultation with Dr. Seifi is necessary to determine if Vivos is the right solution for you.

  • How long does the Vivos Treatment take?

Answer: The duration of the Vivos Treatment typically ranges from 12 to 24 months, depending on the individual's specific needs and the severity of their condition. The treatment involves wearing the custom-fitted Vivos appliance for a prescribed period each day.

  • Is the Vivos Oral Appliance comfortable to wear?

Answer: Yes, the Vivos Oral Appliance is custom-fitted to each patient's mouth, ensuring a comfortable fit. While it may take a short period to get accustomed to wearing the appliance, most patients find it much more comfortable than alternatives like CPAP machines.

  • Are there any side effects of using the Vivos Oral Appliance?

Answer: The Vivos Oral Appliance is generally well-tolerated with minimal side effects. Some patients may experience temporary discomfort or an adjustment period as they get used to the appliance. Any concerns should be discussed with Dr. Seifi during your consultation.

  • Can the Vivos System cure sleep apnea?

Answer: The Vivos System is designed to address the structural causes of sleep apnea, potentially reducing or even eliminating the symptoms. While many patients experience significant improvements, it's important to have realistic expectations and understand that results can vary.

  • What is the process for getting started with Vivos Treatment?

Answer: The first step is scheduling a consultation with Dr. Seifi. During the consultation, Dr. Seifi will conduct a thorough examination, discuss your symptoms, and determine if the Vivos System is suitable for you. If you're a candidate, a custom treatment plan will be developed.

  • Will insurance cover the Vivos Treatment?
