Opening Airways. Changing Lives

Sleep and Your Child’s Health

Parents seldom think of their child as suffering from sleep apnea but as many as 10% of preschool and school-aged children do. In children, sleep apnea may look like this:
  • Snoring or noisy breathing
  • Pauses during breathing
  • Mouth breathing
  • Restlessness
  • Bedwetting
When children sleep, the muscles around their throat relax and narrow the airway, sometimes cutting off their air supply. As a result, they temporarily stop breathing. When breathing pauses, the child does not get enough oxygen. This wakes them which opens the airway and allows the child to breathe until the airway once again closes during sleep. This happens repeatedly throughout the night, depriving the child of the sleep so urgently needed for sound growth. For some children, the health effects of this broken sleep are quite serious.

The child may suffer frequent infections, manifest behavioral problems, fall asleep during class and experience unhealthy metabolic or endocrine changes. Children may also fail to thrive or gain weight normally.

Sleep deprivation in children causes significant physical and mental health issues.

The Solution to Pediatric Apnea

The Vivos appliance offers concerned parents a true breakthrough in resolving children’s apnea and other types of sleep-disordered breathing. This appliance worn inside the mouth actually reshapes the mouth and airway, resulting in satisfactory oxygenation day and night.
